My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Bleeding gums can be a symptom of many things, from a leaky filling to simply brushing your teeth too hard. If your gums bleed after you brush your teeth, schedule an appointment with Dr. Norman right away. While bleeding gums may seem harmless, it can also be a symptom of gingivitis, a disorder related to gum disease that causes painful, irreversible damage to your teeth. Worse, bacteria in your mouth can get into your blood stream and accumulate in your heart, lungs, and other organs.

Thankfully, gingivitis can be treated. If your gums are bleeding, schedule an appointment with us. When you come in, we examine your mouth, chart your gums, and take x-rays. From there, we can recommend ways to treat the gums and stop the bleeding.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I do not want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

Dr. Norman is always eager to help you improve the appearance of your teeth without braces. We have a variety of cosmetic services, including veneers and crowns to help you. Each person is unique and in order for Dr. Norman to prescribe a particular treatment, he would have to examine your mouth, listen to what your expectations are, and then make an assessment. If you're interested in straightening or changing the appearance of your teeth, you might want to schedule an appointment for a Smile Analysis and a Smile Design session with Dr. Norman.

What are Smile Analysis and Smile Design?

In a Smile Analysis, Dr. Norman looks at all the factors that make up your smile. These are the shape of a smile, the size, the smile line, and the position of your teeth, lips, and gums when you smile. He listens to your expectations for your smile and what concerns you may have about achieving the look you want. Once he has this information, he can create a customized Smile Design. Using the cosmetic video imaging system, Dr. Norman then generates an image of your new smile, reviews the results with you, and discusses the next steps to make it happen.
